From intern to archivist

FriedmanSt. Olaf student Sophie Friedman ’14 was hoping to learn about careers in library science and archives. One thing led to another and soon she was spending the month of January as an intern in the Libraries’ Upper Midwest Jewish Archives.

Friedman inventoried oral histories, pulled photos for a website, and processed letters from WWI and WWII. Her interest piqued and now she plans to pursue a graduate degree in library science and become a full-time archivist.

The evidence is in

Doctors, nurses, pharmacists, and public health workers need quality information to support their day-to-day clinical practices. Quickly finding the best evidence based on research is a critical process made difficult by the increasing quantity of information available.

Not only do our librarians join physicians on hospital rounds to provide on-the-spot data searches, they have developed a two-day workshop and web-based tutorial to reinforce and strengthen faculty skills.
