U Libraries make front page news
Umbra: Search African American History, an online search tool developed by Libraries staff, recently enjoyed front page coverage in the June 28 edition of the StarTribune. Check out UmbraSearch.org for over 400,000 items from more than 1000 U.S. archives, libraries, and museums.

An adventure you won’t want to miss
Visit the exciting new exhibit, The Misadventures of Sherlock Holmes. Stroll four “rooms” of art and artifacts in Elmer L. Andersen Library. The gallery is open Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. with hours extended to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday and Thursday. Really – this is a must see!

Tretter Collection honored
The Tretter Collection received a prestigious award from the American Library Association: the inaugural Newlen-Symons Award for Excellence in Serving the GLBT Community. Nominees were judged based on innovation, impact, sustainability, and advocacy. Congratulations to Curator Lisa Vecoli and staff for this significant achievement!

Event highlight: Voting Rights Event
|

Lake Harriet United Methodist Church will host a screening of the film Selma: The Bridge to the Ballot, followed by a panel discussion on the erosion of voting rights in the United States.
In addition, Cecily Marcus, Curator for the Givens Collection of African American Literature, will host a table in the foyer to demonstrate UmbraSearch.org.

Not everyone is perfect, including the world’s most famous consulting detective, Sherlock Holmes. This exhibition highlights some of Mr. Holmes’ mishaps, described by Dr. Watson and others, through art, artifacts, parodies, pastiches, and other “unofficial” adventures from the Sherlock Holmes Collections.
