Summer is spelled “READ”!

Summer reading Bingo CardThe Libraries are popping up this summer. You’ll find us at the ever-popular University of Minnesota Farmers Markets on Wednesdays this summer. As a special incentive to challenge yourself, pick up a Summer Reading BINGO card and start reading. Monthly prizes will be awarded! Check it out. And are you wondering what to read? Our librarians have great suggestions.

“Up in the sky…”

Aerial photo of the west bank of the University of Minnesota campus, 1938…Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No, it’s remarkable aerial photos of Minneapolis dating back to 1938. A recent collaboration between the City of Minneapolis, Minnesota Historical Society, and the Libraries’ Borchert Map Library has resulted in a treasure trove of more than 4,500 photos which are digitized and available for you to view!

“THE outstanding press in the world”

Young printers come to Whittington Press to learn techniqueThat’s how Gov. Elmer Andersen described Whittington Press in 1984 when he donated its archives to the University. The Libraries recently acquired the remaining archive of the internationally acclaimed letterpress printer located in Gloucestershire, England. The acquisition likely makes this the only repository in the world to hold every single item ever produced by Whittington Press.
