Internationally acclaimed Maestro to donate his papers to the Performing Arts Archives
Imagine the treasure trove the Libraries will receive in the form of papers, scores, and recordings from conductor/composer, Stanisław Skrowaczewski, who began piano and violin studies at age 4, composed his first symphonic work at 7, and gave his first public recital at 11.
With regular engagements with leading orchestras throughout North America and Europe, he is the beloved conductor laureate of the Minnesota Orchestra, where he served as music director of the
Orchestra from 1960 to 1979 and was a key figure in the creation of Orchestra Hall.
Groundbreaking project to create a national digital library
Minnesota Digital Library (MDL)—a state-wide collaboration by University of Minnesota Libraries, Minnesota Historical Society, Minitex, and key memory institutions around the state—has been selected to as one of seven service hubs to the Digital Public Library of America (DPLA).
The groundbreaking DPLA project (think of it as similar in scope and influence to that of Andrew Carnegie’s contributions to brick and mortar libraries) aims to make our nation’s collections of significance to the study of American life digital, searchable, and accessible to the public. Take a look at Minnesota’s digital collection. |
