Great advice for parents, grandparents —
— from new Curator of the Children’s Literature Research Collection (CLRC), Lisa Von Drasek. What’s the appropriate book for your child or grandchild? Lisa is a children’s book expert who frequently contributes to EarlyWord.com, Shelf-Awareness.com, and the New York Times.
Check out her latest article, "Let Them Read What They Want."
Meet Lisa at the reception for author Paul O. Zelinsky on Feb. 21. Make your reservation online.
Happy 85th Anniversary,
University Archives
The University Archives, official home for the University’s valuable historical documents, photographs, films, currently holds over 1,500 unique collections of administrative records and faculty papers totaling 18,000 linear feet of material!
It’s a heavily used collection by faculty, staff, genealogists, and the public — in fact, each year the archive sees 500 onsite visitors and gets 2,500 email and phone inquiries.
In 2012, the entire run of Gopher years beginning in 1888 and ending in 1967 — and a few smaller yearbooks in the ‘70s and ‘80s are available and full text searchable. Even if you aren’t an alum, you can take an enjoyable walk through history.
Check out the photos in the collection including a rather thin Goldy Gopher 1957 and the Women’s League Council 1910.
Excerpts from a fan who "Gets It"
As a recent email from an extremely busy Assistant Professor in American Studies notes, “…I am working on two book manuscripts, a slew of articles, conference papers, I teach, am director of undergraduate studies for our department AND I have twin 3 year old girls. I have little free time…When I look at the resources the U provides..I rank “GetIt” (Libraries' service of delivering books to my campus office) as one of the most valuable."
And what did his calculations reveal? Savings: 100+ hours in time, $23 in fuel, and $67 in parking costs!!
