Building tomorrow's library leaders

institute attendeesFor the ninth year, the University Libraries has held the Minnesota Institute for Early Career Libraries from traditionally underrepresented groups.

And for the ninth year, the roster of participants was exceptionally impressive. Twenty-two librarians from across the country learned about leadership and organizational behavior in higher education. The keynote speaker this year was Courtney Young, an Institute alumna who is currently President of the American Library Association Executive Board. The program works!

Retiring a legend

uthinkBy 2004, you might have heard of blogs…but how to launch one or update it had many people befuddled. Along came UThink, a platform developed by Shane Nackerud, technology lead of Libraries initiatives, which made blogging and website updates easier.

UThink quickly caught on and quickly became the largest academic blogging site in North America! Reduced usage, security concerns, and the availability of alternative blogging platforms all played into a decision to retire UThink…but its successful run will be remembered fondly.

Transforming Tretter

three peopleCollecting archival material that documents the history of the GLBT movement in Minnesota is an important endeavor; however, making it accessible is critical. The first step is to organize and describe the materials.

A recent grant from the state of Minnesota Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund is making it all possible. To learn more, read “Legacy Grant to Transform…” in the June edition of Tretter Letter.
