Sherlock on the road and in the news—

Image of a book cover titled Sherlock Holmes, IllustratedTwo hundred twenty elementary and middle school students brought up in the era of “NCIS” and “CSI” traveled back to the Victorian era to learn about the original crime solvers. Tim Johnson, Curator of the Sherlock Holmes Collection regaled students in the Rushford-Peterson Schools with tales of that famous duo—Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson. Both the local CBS television affiliate and the newspaper covered the event.

Sally’s Bad Hair Day…

Picture of wrapped books for the Valentine's Day promotion…is a very good day for the Guthrie Theater costume bibles! The Libraries’ crowdfunding campaign is underway to ensure that the designer sketches and artifacts in these scrapbooks are restored and preserved for future generations of actors, directors, and historians. Hear what legendary actress Sally Wingert had to say.

From Hippocrates to Gray’s Anatomy

Print illustration of Andreas Vesalius…and the extraordinary history of medical advances through modern times are captured in the exhibit of the Wangensteen Historical Library of Biology and Medicine. University Honors Student, Rachael Howard, has created a timeline that traces the development of modern anatomy within the context of Andreas Vesalius (1514-1564), considered by many to be the father of modern anatomy. The exhibit, Visualizing the Body: Celebrating 500 Years of Andreas Vesalius, Renaissance Art and Medical Revolution is open through May 8, 2015.
