Clash of the Titans: Case of the Disputed Research Findings

Linus PaulingA recent acquisition sheds light on the fiery dispute between Nobel Laureate Dr. Linus Pauling and Dr. Charles Moertel concerning the effectiveness of Vitamin C and Laetril as treatments for advanced cancer. Dr. Moertel, chief researcher and Mayo Clinic spokesman, returned fire with claims of bias in the Pauling clinical trials which proved to be accurate. Dr. Moertel's papers relating to the dispute were donated by his son Christopher, a U professor and clinical director of the Pediatric Brain Tumor Program, to the Wangensteen Historical Library and will be available to researchers in fall 2012.
