Say yes!!!

…to Wendy Lehr, the celebrated actor, director, and teacher who is the featured speaker at the 2014 Friends of the Libraries Annual Celebration.

Who can forget her goofy, eye-popping portrayal of wicked stepsister Pearl in “Cinderella”? Or her recent role as Edie in “Grey Gardens”? Her presentation, "My Life in the Theater, I always said Yes!" is sure to be filled with equal measures of wit and wisdom.

Buy tickets now for this fabulous evening with a Twin Cities legend, Monday, May 12, 7:30 p.m., Rarig Center, University of Minnesota.

Exploring our natural history

Meadowlarks and a handIn her role with the Exploring Minnesota’s Natural History project, Rebecca Wilson sees thousands of images. Every so often, one really stands out. “There will be a series of 100 photographs of blackbirds,” said Wilson, project manager. “But, then, photograph 101 will be a hand holding two meadowlarks.”

The yearlong project, conducted by University Archives, will digitize and provide online access to unique botanical, zoological, and geological material from archival collections that document the natural history of the state of Minnesota dating back to 1872.

Learn more about the project at the next “First Fridays,” May 2, 12:00 p.m., Elmer Andersen Library.

Bulletin boards alive and well

bulletin boardIn days gone by, people gathered around the community bulletin board to exchange ideas, recipes, and upcoming events. Turns out, it was a great way to bring people together.

Today, white boards placed in the lobbies of our major campus libraries are a way to engage our patrons with a variety of questions, some just-for-fun and all thought-provoking.
